People who crossed the Los Angeles International Airport last month may have been infected with measles, the Los Angeles County Public Health Department said Tuesday.

A person with the highly contagious virus arrived at the airport on China Eastern flight 583 at Terminal B of Tom Bradley International Airport, Gate 133, on the morning of 21 February. She then made a stopover before taking the Delta 5705 flight on Terminal 3. Door 32

The health authorities warned anyone at B and Delta 3 terminals from 9:00 to 21:00. On February 21, they could have been exposed to measles. The Los Angeles County Public Health Department informs passengers of Delta Flight 5705 about possible contamination.

The County Health Department, which learned the details of the case on March 7, said there was no known risk of measles at LAX as the period of possible exposure had passed.

Symptoms of measles include fever, runny nose, cough, sore throat, and a rash that spreads all over the body. Measles is so contagious that 90% of unvaccinated people who come in contact with an infected person will get the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"If you think that you or someone around you has been exposed to or affected by measles, immediately contact your health care provider by phone before you enter," said Muntu Davis, an officer with Los Angeles County Health, in a statement.

The CDC monitors measles cases in 12 states and has identified six outbreaks. In Clark County, Washington – hot spot anti-vaccination – more than 70 cases of measles were confirmed, mostly unvaccinated children.

People who choose not to vaccinate have become a global threat to health in 2019, reported the World Health Organization. The CDC recognized that the number of children who had not been vaccinated before the age of 24 months was gradually increasing.
