The Los Angeles police are so angry at the unsanitary and unhygienic conditions at the downtown police station, where they plan to change jobs, that they plan to transfer elsewhere.
The Los Angeles Times report documents the frustration and anger of officers who believe that their health is threatened by working in horrific conditions.
According to the report, state officials reportedly found that the LAPD's central division station was operating in unsanitary conditions, including a rat infestation.
A Cal / OSHA report also found that "the presence of rats / rodents, fleas, cockroaches, flies, midges, mosquitoes and grasshoppers had been detected at the LAPD Central Community Police Station,".
This follows a report that Los Angeles City officials had neglected mountains of rotting, rotten wastes from rats. Many feared that unhealthy conditions would lead to an epidemic of disease such as typhus or even plague.
A statement from the Los Angeles Police Protective League demanded that the station be immediately cleaned up to mitigate the risks to officers.
"The police officers are concerned enough to be shot or wounded by police on the streets of Los Angeles, nor should they be afraid of being infected with diseases that they might take them home to their families simply by going to work, "their statement said.
"Our request is simple, clean it and provide preventive measures before a massive epidemic," they added.
