In fiscal 2021, the LaGrange Police Department experienced a significant increase in the number of drug overdose incidents throughout the town of LaGrange.
According to a press release from the LPD, the Troup County coroner’s office has been investigated into seven fatal overdose-related deaths so far this year.
Of those seven, four were investigated by the LPD, and all were the result of a fatal dose of fentanyl, which was contained in the medications the deceased had taken.
In the four cases linked to the death in the town of LaGrange, the victims believed they had purchased Oxycodone 30 mg tablets, commonly known by the street name “Roxi’s”, when in fact they were taking counterfeit synthetic opioid pills. , containing lethal amounts. of fentanyl.
In each of these cases, it was determined that the victims had purchased a blue pill, stamped “M-30”, again believing they were purchasing Oxycodone 30 mg. Although the pills are similar in shape, size, and texture, there are a few differences such as pharmaceutical brand mismatch and the fact that these look more grainy than the actual pills.
The LPD warns all citizens never to take a substance that has not been prescribed to them by their doctor.
In addition, the LPD reminds citizens to never buy drugs from street vendors.
In addition to fatal overdoses, the LPD has responded to a total of 33 non-fatal overdoses since the start of the year. Many of them were also purchased illegally on prescription; However, some were due to the ingestion of pills or other substances by younger children. The LPD also wants to warn all parents to keep prescription drugs in the original prescription container and out of the reach of children.
The LPD also reminds citizens that there is a drug drop box located in the lobby of the LPD. The drop box is anonymous and placed there for all citizens to use to throw away old unused prescriptions or any illegal narcotics which must also be destroyed.
