The last match that Luis Castillo started was really horrible. The Cincinnati Reds right-winger had entered this match against the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing only 4 ERs in a start once in the season, then was beaten for 8 ERs in just 4.1, serving a trio of dingers . In the process.
That said, it's wonderful to see him return to his dominant form today, because that's exactly what he was against the San Diego Padres.
Castillo made a total of 100 shots at his 6th IP, yielding only 5 hours and a single solitaire at the same time. He was not working against 4K and, hopefully, proved that his previous departure was nothing but an aberration.
Honorable mentions are due to: Jose Iglesias, who returned home on a two-tube day; Eugenio Suarez, who also had a 2-tube day with a ribbie; Raisel Iglesias, who slammed the door on the 9th for another stop; Michael Lorenzen, who slammed a similar door at 8; and Freddy Galvis, who continued to ride with a single, a double, a step and a ribbie.
Key Games
- San Diego actually scored a finish on the board with a top-three victory after Ty France distinguished himself and later scored on a double from Greg Garcia. The reds were led 1-0.
- The Reds had this race, and more, back in the bottom of the third offensive thrower Eric Yardley. Nick Senzel opened by attempting a mistake and finished 2B over the game. A bag-bunt from Iglesias and a Suarez single that would have scored him anyway later, the match was tied. A march by Aristides Aquino and a Phil Ervin single then followed to charge the bases, and the Reds collected another pair of runs thanks to the aisles of Josh VanMeter and Fredward E. Galvis. Reds led, 3-1.

Iglesias hit with his solo dinger in the bottom of the 4th to give the Reds a 4-1 lead, although Francisco Mejia asked Lucas Sims to make a solo dinger in the Top of the 7 to bring it back to 4-2. . This is the goal of the day, and the Reds have eliminated the winners of the game and the series.

Jesse Winker has not played again today. This marks the seventh consecutive game that he has not started yet.
- The Reds will have free time tomorrow and they will need it. Friday will mark the start of a 10-day trip in which they will play 11 games.
- The game will be played on Friday in Pittsburgh, as the Reds will have to face the Pirates before heading to Miami and St. Louis. Anthony DeSclafani is scheduled to start for the Reds in this event, although Clint Hurdle has not yet named the pitcher who will pitch to the Reds batters. The first step is scheduled for 19:05 ET in this one.
- To connect a node to these other notes, Winker may finally be retroactive to the DL a few days before the Pirates series and the Reds will ask Derek Dietrich, now in rehab, to take his place on the board. It would be fun, is not it?
