Mark McCormick, father of the late rapper Mac Miller, publicly responded to the announcement of the arrest of his son's alleged trafficker. On Friday, on the eve of the rapper's death anniversary, McCormick attended a rally at the Blue Slide Playground in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which became a permanent watch site.

In tribute, McCormick spoke to the crowd. "He remained loyal to his friends," he said in his moving speech via CBS Pittsburgh. "He was always loving and kind to others."

He also reacted to the news that the alleged Mac dealer, Cameron James Pettit, had been arrested and charged with the death of his son. "So they finally grabbed the asshole who had sold him the drugs that killed him," McCormick told the crowd. And while adding that he finds comfort there, he warned participants of the dangers of drug use. "Many of us who were young, including myself, have experimented with drugs," he said. "But it's a fucking different world. And all you need is a little stone of fentanyl and cocaine and you're dead. The drugs are related to fentanyl – all kinds of drugs. And the only thing I would say to you, is, "Do not take the risk. It's just not worth it.

Last week, federal prosecutors accused Pettit of Mac Miller's death. The criminal complaint alleges that Pettit gave Miller counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl, cocaine and Xanax, instead of the alleged Percocet Miller.

The rapper was found unresponsive on September 7, 2018 at his home in Studio City, California, and authorities declared him dead just before noon. He was 26 years old. The L.A. County Coroner's Office later decided that Miller's death was an accidental overdose. Fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol were in the rapper's system at the time of his death.
