Madonna returns in fight form in ‘Madame X’ documentary teaser

This week, Madonna gave fans a preview of her long-brewed concert documentary “Madame X” by unveiling a new teaser.

The colorful video, released on Thursday, shows Madonna on stage at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, Portugal, during her Madame X 2019-2020 tour as a clip of her song “Crazy” is played. True to form, the Queen of Pop takes on different forms throughout the 40-second politics-tinged clip, ranging from a sexy spy to a founding father.

“Sharing my vision with a global audience has been deeply meaningful to me,” the singer said of the film in an email statement. “The opportunity to carry its message and the glowing art of everyone involved to an even larger audience comes at a time when music is so deeply needed to remind us of the sacred bond of our shared humanity.”

Directed by Ricardo Gomes, “Madame X” will debut on Paramount + in October and would include behind-the-scenes footage in the cinema-verge style of Madonna’s flagship 1991 documentary “Truth or Dare”.

Compared to Madonna’s previous tours, her 2019 trek was a more intimate affair which saw her perform in theaters rather than stadiums and sports arenas. Although the tour received favorable reviews, the singer suffered hip and knee injuries during her tour, which forced her to cancel several shows. The last two dates in Paris also had to be canceled due to COVID-19.

Of course, it remains to be seen exactly how far this made its way into the final film. In an interview with Town & Country earlier this month, however, Gomes promised longtime Madonna fans would not be disappointed.

“He’s got a really strong message that’s so amazing and political,” he said, “and after this year and a half of shutting down and taking nothing for granted, it’s powerful.”

“Madame X” will be released on Paramount + on October 8th. In international markets, the film will be screened on MTV.
