Head of the Maine CDC on Friday, Dr Nirav Shah said he feared the coronavirus situation could worsen.

The one-day record in Maine was shattered Thursday with 346 more cases.

The seven-day positivity rate more than tripled last month, from 1.5% to 4.87%.

Hospitalization rates are also on the rise.

Dr Shah also announced a change in quarantine guidelines on Friday. People who are close contacts of someone with COVID-19 only need to quarantine 10 days instead of 14, Shah said.

This advice is aligned with guidelines issued by the US CDC earlier this week.

* The Maine CDC says the woman in her 70s from York County was originally reported as a resident of Cumberland County. The data reflects one fewer COVID-related deaths among residents of Cumberland County and one additional COVID-related death among residents of York County. Sunday’s numbers will reflect this adjustment.

The next Maine CDC briefing is scheduled for Monday, December 7 at 2 p.m. Dr Shah will provide an update on epidemic investigations during this briefing.
