Maine Reports 897 New COVID-19 Cases, 10 Deaths Over 3-Day Period

Maine reported 897 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 more deaths on Tuesday.

The new cases represent positive cases on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, as the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention does not report the number of cases on weekends. The total also includes some cases dating back to the end of September due to a delay in tracing positive test results.

Since the start of the pandemic, Maine has reported 92,365 cases of COVID-19 and 1,036 deaths. The Maine CDC has also been working on backlogs in recent weeks, so even though the nearly 300 cases a day over the past three days represents a drop in the number of cases, as workers catch up with the backlog during the week , the average number of daily cases ends higher.

The seven-day average of new daily cases in Maine was 597.1 on Tuesday, up from 521.9 a week ago and 383 a month ago.

However, there have been signs of the pandemic easing. Hospitalizations in Maine fell to 192 on Monday, the lowest level in 18 days and well below the peak of 235 on September 25. Nationally, cases have declined to about 100,000 per day, on an average of seven days, a 28% drop from two. a few weeks ago, according to federal data.

“Hopefully easing will catch on in Maine,” Shah said Monday on “Maine Calling,” the Maine Public calling radio show.

Vaccinations have also increased in Maine, although much of the increase was due to booster shots given to people aged 65 and older and those with high-risk health conditions.

On the vaccination front, 878,363 people in Maine received their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, representing 65.3% of the state’s 1.3 million people.
