PORTLAND – Residents of Maine will be given cards to simplify the coronavirus vaccination process after receiving the first vaccine.

The state began rolling out the vaccine this week and it is expected to take months. Hundreds of health workers have been vaccinated so far.

The coronavirus vaccine that is becoming available is a two-part series. People who receive the vaccine will be given a card that reminds them when they were vaccinated, as well as where and when to return for a second vaccine, Maine Center for Disease Control director Dr Nirvav Shah said on Wednesday.

The vaccine is currently only available to frontline healthcare workers. Shah said the vaccine would likely reach the general population in late spring or early summer. It will be available to members of at-risk groups before that date.
