Malaria vaccines to reduce deaths by 40%

The implementation of the malaria vaccine, Mosquirix, will reduce the number of children who die from the disease by 40% per year.

That's what Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said.

In a statement released Friday, Dr. Nsiah-Asare said the vaccine would provide an additional 40% protection for children against malaria.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare commented on the fears raised by some people that the vaccine was able to make people powerless and was an agenda for the West. phase of the vaccine trial in 2014.

In Ghana, children from Agogo and Kintampo were enrolled in the second and third phase of the trials, he added, adding that more than 3,000 children had received the vaccine.

He added that follow-ups on children did not reveal any major undesirable results when the report was published.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare added that the vaccine had been approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the implementation areas and that the FDA would continue to monitor its use as with all other vaccines.
