The “tired mum” costume may have been done before, but nobody’s nailed it quite like this 13-year-old, who has some experience as a worn-out caregiver to her eight other siblings.
Jillian Schnerch is one of Lindsay and Kyle Hartsock’s nine children and often sees her parents juggling their photography business with taking care of their brood daily in their home in New Mexico, USA.

“Growing up in a big family, [Jillian] has seen the blood, sweat, and tears that go into raising kids,” Lindsay Hartsock says. “She is our biggest helper and loves her eight siblings so much, but they also tire her out!”
Luckily, Halloween was the perfect time for the fourth-oldest sibling in the family to hilariously express just how exhausting it can be.
In a photo posted to Facebook by the Hartsocks’ Photography business page, Jillian is seen with her hair in a messy bun, dark eyeshadow under her eyes, and with both a baby doll and a coffee in her hands.
Despite the disarray depicted throughout the photo, the items in her Target bag might be what make the costume so good.
“She had diapers, wipes, and three bottles of wine,” Lindsay Hartsock wrote on the Facebook post. “She totally put a lot of thought into this role.”
As it turns out, it wasn’t just her family that served as inspiration.
“Jillian comes on shoots with us occasionally and is a greeter in our studio during our Santa shoots,” her mum says. “She sees us trying to manage it all, as well as lots of other mummies who are our clients and come in totally flustered, but so in love with their kids.”
From the over 7,000 comments on the post of Jillian’s look, many parents seem to relate.
“I legit thought this was me,” one mum commented. “From the yoga pants, spit up, Starbucks cup to the target bag. She literally NAILED IT!! And can’t forget the nursing pad.”
Another said, “That’s what I look like today! And yesterday. And, well, every day since 2015.”
As for Jillian’s interpretation of the look, Lindsay Hartsock says of her daughter’s costume, “Being a mum is so much work, but it has these little rewarding moments during the day that make it all worth it.”
