Malaysia Launches Degree Verification Platform Built On NEM

The Ministry of education of Malaysia announced the launch of the blockchain system e-Scroll that will be used to verify the legitimacy of degree.
The blockchain system of issue and verification of degree certificates was developed by a team from the International Muslim University of Malaysia (IIUM). The system will store certification data in the NEM blockchain and perform online verification in seconds by scanning the QR code printed on the certificate.
It is expected that this system will guarantee the authenticity of certificates.
The reason for the development of the blockchain verification system was the increase in the number of fake degree certificates and the ease with which they can be purchased via the Internet. In addition, the Ministry reported that universities were receiving a huge number of requests for authentication. This process is mostly done through phone calls and emails, which is quite labor-intensive and inefficient.
Recall, in late September, it became known that the Malaysian government intended to stimulate the introduction of blockchain technology in three sectors of the country’s economy: electricity generation from renewable sources, palm oil production and islamic finance.
