KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian manufacturing sector recorded higher sales in May and higher sales of workers, which saw their average wages increase by 10% to RM3,562 compared to the previous year.
His chief statistician, Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin, said Thursday that sales in the manufacturing sector had grown 5.5 percent, from RM 61.9 billion last year to RM65.3 billion .
"The significant increase in the value of sales in May 2018 is due to the increase in electrical and electronic products (7.5%), petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products ( 6.8%) and non-metallic mineral products, base metals and fabricated metal products (4.3%), "he said.

Value of sales per employee rose 3.8% to RM 61,071 over the previous year.
The manufacturing sector also experienced an increase in the number of employees in May compared with a year ago.
The total number of employees in the sector increased 1.7%, or 18,077 workers, from 1,051,923 people in May 2017 to 1,070,000 people.
