The DC Comics super-heroine movie may have found its villain after opening discussions with Ewan McGregor on the role of Black Mask.
Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn for "Birds of Prey", having made an impressive debut at DC Comics as a charismatic villain in "Suicide Squad".
She is accompanied by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. Rosie Perez is also involved as a police detective Renee Montoya.
Now, the main cast is even closer to completion, as the Warner Bros. Project is in talks with Ewan McGregor of the "Star Wars" series and Season 3 of "Fargo" (which also featured Winstead) .
That's what TheWrap says, putting McGregor in the role of Black Mask; a Gotham chief who, according to cartoon legend, allegedly killed his parents in order to take control of the family business, which he then accidentally destroyed, before attempting to ruin those to whom he blamed his own mistakes.
Traditionally, this puts him on a collision course not only with Batman, but also with his civilian alter ego and Wayne Enterprises' owner, Bruce Wayne.
According to the movie's logline, the Birds of Prey team up to save a little girl, Cassandra Cain, from her grip.
Cain has not been chosen yet, but the character is one of many countries to have adopted the Batgirl coat. she was then reinvented as a different superheroine called Orphan.
"Birds of Prey" is scheduled for February 2020. Cathy Yan, who made a splash with her feature debut and Sundance's hit "Dead Pigs", will be the director. JB
