KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 – The biggest outdoor music festival in Malaysia took place this weekend and to wrap it up, it was brilliant.
The 2018 Toyota Good Vibes Festival (GVF 2018) marked the return of the music and lifestyle festival for the sixth year in a row and with each passing year, organizers seem to improve from the setting up of a brilliant programming of local and international artists, facilities, fun and games.
There were more than 10 positives to take home after the event, but here is our list of four that looks forward to the 2019 edition.
Impressive local acts
A majority of the crowd the two days arrived after 6pm, which means that # They missed a memorable event for us: The talent that our local troops showed on the three scenes of the Ranch at Genting Highlands.
LUNADIRA debuted Saturday at the Blue Stage before Zamaera delivers a powerful half-hour on the red stage with His unique rap style.
Pastel Lite and $ miley pleased the crowd at Blue Stage and Electric Fields respectively before the Kyoto Protocol lifted the crowd on the red stage.
The highlight of the first day was Altimet & The Kawan Band which gave fans a brilliant mix of world music and hip-hop with a Malaysian twist.
Pop singer Bil Musa, 24, started the second day with Noh Salleh, Dangerdisko, Fatim, Dj Nesh and Dan $ vii.
Th act that stole our hearts on the second day was Froya, who mixed in a wide range of genres during her 30 minutes on the red stage.
Diversity
What sets GVF apart from the rest of Malaysia's music festivals is its diversity . Not only musical diversity, but in various ways. From music to fun and games, there was always another option to choose if a style did not suit you.
Music-wise, there was pop, rock, hip-hop and folk activities jumping on a trampoline to a simpler game like Jenga.
There was a wide variety of food, such as nachos, burgers, sandwiches and fried chicken. In a word, the best way to describe it would be a festival for everyone.
International acts really liked Malaysia
We have all heard this phrase from "Malaysia, I "Loved", "GVF2018 was special because headline artists such as Lorde, SZA, Louis Child and Odesza have really shown some affection for Malaysia.
Day 1, Louis L'Enfant and Vince Staples were surprised to SZA went a step further and shocked the crowd by appearing on stage in a red sari and told the 15,000 fans "Malaysia, I'm really impressed by your culture. "
New Zealander Lorde was also bewildered, looking very emotional after the end of her set on day 2. The 21-year-old spoke to the crowd:" Wow, I can not believe that I am in Malaysia, you have been so wonderful. "(Please Come back, Lorde, you were also amazing!)
The management
For this year, the fans did not have much to complain about. The entrance was placed higher up the hill, with more wickets for check-ins, parking was also available.
Crowd control was better and there was a larger medical room and a lost property department.
After the heavy rain of horror that occurred at GVF in 2017, organizers provided wooden platforms and other tables and chairs around the festival grounds.
For those who did not take the car Genting was free too. The grouse we had parking at the multi-storey Genting Skyway car park. We do not laugh, it took us about two hours to get out of there the first day, luckily the second day was a breeze.
