HALF adults in the United States are trying to lose weight, according to a study released Thursday, with more women than men looking to shed a few pounds.
The National Health and Nutrition Survey, Between 1965 and 2016, 49.1% of Americans aged 20 and over had tried to lose weight in the last 12 months.
A higher percentage of women – 56% – had tried to lose weight than men – 42%.
Nearly six in ten women aged 40 to 59 say they have tried to lose weight.
Nearly 40% of the American population was considered obese in 2015-2016, a figure that reaches 70 %% if it includes people considered overweight.
The survey found that it was not just overweight people who were looking to lose weight.
A quarter of people of normal weight or even underweight had sought to lose weight.
The study found that the most common methods of losing weight were exercising and eating less food. – AFP
