Medical officials rushed to find an antivenom for a man from Pinconning Township, Michigan who was bitten by his pet dog albino monkey cobra earlier this month.
The 26-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, bitten by the snake on July 14th. 20 minutes later, he became nauseated and started to vomit – a symptom of cobra venom.
The monocle cobra – native to China, Cambodia, and India, among others – has "one of the fastest snake venoms in the world," according to Reptiles Magazine.

The man was rushed to hospital from Bay City. He was later transported to the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) after the venom paralyzed his breathing muscles, preventing him from breathing, reports the Detroit Free Press
Perplexed, medical center officials reached out at the Toledo Zoo in Ohio. provide an om antivente that could cure the man. While the zoo sent eight vials of a generic antivenom, it "had little effect and the patient's condition continued to worsen," said Jason Barczy, director of communications at DMC , in a second attempt to find the right antivenom. The man received the antivenom, according to the Detroit Free Press, although his condition remains uncertain at this time.
"It is very rare that a case like this does not just happen at DMC or in Michigan, but there could be five cases like this nationwide this year alone. ", said Barczy at The Detroit News.
Barczy told Fox News Tuesday afternoon no other information is currently available. The newest antivenom seems to have been successful.
