Our TV reviews on the Emmy 2018 nominations

LYONS I agree with this wild generalization, there are many more comedies than I can not wait to see that there are no dramas. And this year's comedy category is really strong, though, again, I'm not sure everyone really hits in the same weight category. I just think that "Atlanta" and "Barry" are way beyond what other shows do. I have watched these two seasons twice. (Also note that "Atlanta", "Barry", "GLOW", "Ms. Maisel" and "Silicon Valley" were also nominated for an outstanding casting, which is a huge factor for all.)

PONIEWOZIK "GLOW" can be the best casting on TV. While we are on comedies, something that comes up often in recent years, it is the argument that many celebrities – say "Atlanta" and "Barry" this year – are so many dramas. That does not bother me; the categories are arbitrary, but I think there's more that makes a comedy than laughs a second. (It is interesting to note that "Killing Eve", who shares a lot with "Barry", was competing in the field of drama, because, I suppose, of length?)

LYONS I think length ? I'm good with, too, and the truth is as serious as "Barry" and "Atlanta" are often, I really do not care about them. "Babka … two babka" runs through my head for months, and the "Atlanta" button of "That's Michael Vick!" Was one of my favorite TV moments of the year. When I watch comedies, I guess my biggest question is, "Are the supposedly funny parts really funny?" So for shows like, I do not know, "Young Sheldon" or whatever (where the answer is "no"), they are only compared to themselves. It's not like that Emmys do it, I guess, but in Marg's Kingdom, that's the rule.

PONIEWOZIK I'm going to bend my knee to that. Speaking of which, I guess we have to tackle "Game of Thrones", which has picked up a treasure of nominations and maybe quite iced (ice dragon?) All the best dramas we encourage, despite having broadcast what was really half a season, and a mediocre at best. Is this category a predictable conclusion?
