The Bahamas National Trust shines with pride after being selected for a major donation as part of the thrilling Shark Tank "Shark Tank meets Shark Week" show that aired on Discovery Channel on Wednesday night.
TV sharks – tough, self-made, multi-millionaires and billionaire magnates – are looking to invest in the best companies and products that America has to offer. Sharks give people from all walks of life the chance to chase the American dream and potentially trade deals that could make millionaires of them. Sharks also have a purpose, too – get a return on their investment and own a piece of the next big business idea.
The Wednesday night show, instead of fighting for a business idea, the sharks were all donating $ 50,000 to their favorite conservation organization. Each shark had to convince their peers why their shark-focused non-profit organization, with whom they were paired, deserved to win the $ 50,000 donation.
FUBU's magnate, Daymond John, has been associated with BNT to present his phenomenal success story of shark conservation. Mr. John made a compelling case, and reported the price of $ 50,000 for BNT. He then placed the icing on the cake by matching the winnings; bringing the prize money to a total of $ 100,000 for the BNT.
Shelley Cant-Woodside, Director of Science and Policy at BNT, was thrilled with this victory.
"The Bahamas is a small country that is doing great things in conservation," she said. "Through extensive education and outreach, working with PEW Charitable Trusts, BNT was able to work with the Bahamian government to declare the Bahamas shark sanctuaries in 2011. We were delighted to be selected and recognized for our work. but to be selected as She added that the Bahamas were the first to establish a land and maritime park in the Western Hemisphere and had been pushing for the ban on longline fishing which was important for the maintenance of healthy shark populations.
