KUALA LUMPUR – Filming began for the film adaptation of The Garden Of Evening Mists, the award-winning novel by Penang writer Tan Twan Eng.
Set to premiere in 2019, the film will be shot in Malaysian venues such as the Cameron Highland tea plantations, Malaysian film production company Astro Shaw and partners HBO Asia and the national film development company (Finas ) announced on Monday (2 July)

Under the direction of Taiwanese director Tom Lin, the film presents an international cast. Award-winning Taiwanese director and actress Sylvia Chang performs Teoh Yun Ling, the main character who recounts her life in the 1950s and 1980s. Japanese actor Hiroshi Abe plays Nakamura Aritomo, a Japanese gardener and her lover.
The film also stars Malaysian actress / singer Lee Sinje, who won the Golden Horse Award for best actress for the 2002 horror film The Eye and Singaporean actress Tan Kheng Hua
