The Walking Dead season nine is really heating up and fans are dreading Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) exit.
However, Ricks exit isn’t the only big thing to come up in season nine.
The showrunner, Angela Kang, has promised season nine will be very different to the ones that came before it, and so far it’s delivering on her promise.
However, one character who hasn’t really been in the mix so far is Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
He has been locked up by Rick after his terrible actions in the previous seasons, and the fact he’s still alive has created a rift in the show’s main characters.
Daryl Dixon (Norman Reeds), Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) and Michonne (Danai Gunrai) all believe Negan should have been killed for his actions.
However, Rick felt imprisonment was the better way to go since killing him might create another riot.
Although, it seems as though being kept in isolation might prove to be too much for Negan.
“I think what’s been interesting this year for me is that we’re seeing Negan vulnerable,” Morgan told GameSpot
“I think that Negan’s been locked up for a spell. I don’t think anybody interacts with him, except for possibly Rick.”
Morgan continued: “I think Negan probably lives for that.”
“I think that’s all he thinks about, ‘Please, Rick, come down here.’ So, I think that’s when he gets a little bit of bravado.”
Morgan then teased that Negan might be struggling to stay sane whilst he’s imprisoned.
“I think he’s going insane, is truthfully what I think is going on,” the actor revealed.
“I think that the four walls have closed in on him, so he’s battling trying to keep some sense of sanity. It’s not going well.”
Negan will still get to have those one-on-one chats with Rick, and fans will get to see a very different side to the character in season nine.
That said, there will be tough times for him ahead as he struggles with psychological issues and malnourishment, and he’s really missing performing in front of an audience.
“He’s used to performing in front of a lot of people and putting on a show,” Morgan said.
“I think [being] unable to do that has killed a part of him that is very important to his psyche.
“I think that he’s going through a lot of s*** right now. I don’t think he’s eating well. I don’t think he’s getting to talk to people. These are things that are important to Negan,” he finished.
The Walking Dead season nine continues next Sunday on AMC and next Monday at 9pm on FOX in the UK. Seasons 1-8 are available to stream on NOW TV.
