The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office this week indicted a 27-year-old man with criminal threats against a mother and son during a meeting late last month, authorities said.
At 8:30 a.m. on August 30, the mother was walking on Telegraph Avenue near Ashby Avenue when the man approached them and began an absurd rant before grabbing the lapel of her 5-year-old son’s jacket, according to a police statement Thursday.
After the woman fled to a nearby grocery store for fear of being assaulted, officers attended and found the man a few blocks away. He was taken into custody on suspicion of having threatened with intent to terrorize and assault and battery. On Tuesday, the district attorney’s office charged him with criminal threats.
The man, who was on jail records as unemployed, was in custody Thursday at Santa Rita Prison on $ 50,000 bond and awaiting a bail reduction motion hearing on Sept. 20, according to an investigation. files.
