A Canadian allegedly punched a nurse in the face after the medical professional gave his wife a COVID-19 vaccine without her consent, local officials said.
The man reportedly confronted the nurse at a pharmacy in the city of Sherbrooke, about 100 miles southeast of Montreal, Quebec, where she had been sent to administer vaccines.
“Our suspect walked right into the office and started yelling at the nurse,” police spokesman Martin Carrier told Reuters in a telephone interview.
The man was outraged when he learned that his wife had been vaccinated in the office “without his permission” and punched her in the face, Carrier said.
It is not known whether the suspect objected to the vaccinations or whether his wife was vaccinated at that pharmacy, Carrier told Reuters.
Canadian President Justin Trudeau has criticized anti-vaccine protests taking place across the country while campaigning for his re-election. Protests increased last week ahead of the federal election.
Quebec Premier François Legault said on Wednesday he hoped to pass a law this week to prevent anti-vaccines from demonstrating near schools and hospitals or face a fine.
“My patience has reached its limit,” he told reporters in Quebec. “I think it’s important to leave our children and our patients alone.
