FORT MYERS, Fla .– A Fort Myers woman woke up abruptly when a stranger started knocking on her doors in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Catherine Shepardson lives in a somewhat industrial area near the Tamiami Trail in Fort Myers. She said she got scared when she woke up around 5 a.m. when someone was constantly knocking on her front door.
“It was very aggressive, very persistent,” Shepardson said. “I was so scared because I didn’t know who this person was and didn’t want to reveal that I was inside.”
She said she wasn’t expecting anyone so she grabbed her dog and tried to stay out of sight, but she could see part of the man at her door.
“I saw the shoes of the person sitting outside my door and they were men’s shoes,” Shepardson said. “I waited for them to go away but I kind of saw them looking while trying to look.”
Catherine said the man then walked to her front door and started knocking quickly for another five minutes. Once he left, Catherine implored her owner to check their newly installed security cameras.
The man has just gone straight up the stairs. He missed all the downstairs units and went straight to my back door and started knocking, ”Shepardson said.
Cameras caught a man stopping at the mostly commercial building around 5 a.m., heading straight for Shepardson’s bedroom.
“I feel like he came here for me, but I’ve never seen him before,” Shepardson said. “It’s a commercial building, so it wasn’t like he got lost on his way to his girlfriend’s house or anything like that.”
Catherine filed a police report with the Fort Myers Police Department. Shepardson owns a store called “Conscious Space” near her home in Fort Myers. She said that while the man filmed had committed no crime and was not charged with a crime, she was concerned that he would enter with every customer walking through his doors.
Some of Catherine’s friends, like Amanda Adams, have said that she hopes the man in the video comes forward in the hopes that this spooky scenario is a misunderstanding.
“It would just be nice to hear his side of the story and find out what’s going on,” Adams said.
