Man living at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport says he was too scared to fly due to COVID-19 pandemic

CHICAGO – A man reportedly lived inside Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport for three months before being arrested on Saturday.

Prosecutors said Aditya Singh, 36, was too scared to return to Los Angeles because of COVID-19.

Cook County prosecutors said Singh was found with the misplaced identifying information of an airport employee and survived in a secure area of ​​the airport.

Singh arrived at O’Hare Terminal 2 on a flight from Los Angeles on October 19, prosecutors said.

He has since been living in the airport security zone.

On Saturday, two United Airlines employees confronted Singh and asked him to see his work ID card which had been reported as stolen by an airport operations manager.

Singh was taken into custody and told authorities he found the identifying information and was afraid to return home during the pandemic.

He has been charged with criminal trespassing in a restricted area of ​​an airport and theft.

The judge said he was shocked that Singh had not been detected sooner.

“Although this incident is still under investigation, we were able to determine that this gentleman posed no risk to the safety of the airport or the traveling public,” the aviation department said Monday morning. Chicago in a statement. “We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners on a full investigation of this matter.”

Singh’s defense attorney asked Singh to return home.

The judge denied this and set the bond at $ 10,000.
