Man reveals ‘shady’ iPhone hack to spy on conversations: ‘it’s dangerous’

If you don’t know how to use hearing tuning on an iPhone, you are not alone.

The feature, which essentially turns your phone into a live listening device, goes viral on TikTok. This is largely thanks to user @brycenor, who explained how to use the feature to spy on your friends.

The TikToker shared the iPhone hack in response to a current trend on the app, which asks users to reveal something that “seems illegal to know.”

“I don’t think it should be illegal, but it’s fishy,” @brycenor says at the start of his clip.

As @brycenor explains in his video, the hearing setting can be used with AirPods to listen to other people’s conversations, even when you’re not in the room. Setting up the feature is as easy as opening your iPhone’s settings app.

From there you select the “Control Center” option and click on “Audition”. Then you can activate the function in your phone’s control center, set up your AirPods, and leave your phone in another room. As @brycenor says: “You can leave it in any room. You can listen to what everyone is saying at any time. “

Some TikTok users were excited to learn about the feature, but many were scared of it.

“Don’t trust people with AirPods, understood,” one user wrote.

“Why did my heart rate just go up,” wrote another.

“It’s dangerous,” added another.

Others have pointed out that the hearing setting might actually be worse for the person using it.

“I already think EVERYBODY is talking about me,” one user wrote.

“Nah. I don’t want to hurt myself,” added another.

As some users have pointed out, Hearing Adjustment was actually intended as an accessibility feature for iPhone users, especially those who are hard of hearing. By turning off background noise, the “live listening” tool makes it easier for users to hear conversations.
