A pair of images of an "iPhone XI" manikin for manufacturing purposes claims to show the precise dimensions of the 2019 iPhone range, including a square camera extrusion.
The images appear to be 3D prints or units milled from a CAD file. The discussion of the dummies suspects them of being "blanks" for iPhone in the dimensions of a future iPhone, used to design third-party protection cases.
Few things can be gleaned from drafts that have not yet been thought of. The camera penetration is square, with three areas in which a camera lens would be located. A fourth smaller cutout in the extrusion of the camera suggests where the flash can end up on the final unit.
The second image shows that Apple may be considering keeping the notch. The notch shows four sensor penetrations and a speaker hole.
The provenance of the images is not clear. They may actually be dummy variables generated from disclosed specifications, in the same way that accurate dummy case models were available for the iPhone X and iPhone XS families by the end of April 2017 and 2018, respectively. In particular, at the corresponding times, the names of the products were not accurate. However, it can also be pure speculation based on earlier rumors.
Previous predictions for the 2019 range assume that the rear cameras of the iPhone 2019 LCD OLED 6.5 inch, OLED 5.8 inch and 6.1 inch models should evolve, respectively, to a triple camera and a dual camera. Specifically, an extra-large camera provided by Sony will be added to the model. A new black coating will be used to make the device "unobtrusive", but what that implies is not known at the present time.
Ming-Chi Kuo also hypothesized that the 2019 iPhone lineup would retain a Lightning connector rather than adopting USB-C, unlike the iPad Pro range. IPhones are also supposed to keep Apple's TrueDepth camera and an associated screen notch. All or part of the range is intended to obtain an ultra wide band (UWB) for positioning and navigation inside, a frosted glass case and larger batteries. An interesting addition is what is known as "two-way" wireless charging, which would allow the phone to charge other wireless devices, thus acting as a charger.
TrueDepth could see an update with a high-powered illuminator for better facial recognition, Kuo said, while a new 6.1-inch LCD model could be upgraded to incorporate 4GB of RAM, against 3 GB currently on the iPhone XR.
