Marelli wins Automotive News 2021 PACE award

Marelli is the first supplier to develop and market a fuel injector capable of reaching a pressure level of 1000 bar. Very high pressure gasoline direct injection (GDI) can provide high efficiency and clean combustion while overcoming the drawbacks of standard GDI such as knocking and soot. Marelli created a complete system around the injector, comprising a pump, an injection rail and an electronic control unit (ECU) with software.

Like the way to 7 euros and equivalent global pollutant laws create stricter CO emissions2 standards, automakers are focusing on finding new solutions to achieve higher efficiencies and lower emissions from the internal combustion engine. High compression ratio and unconventional combustion systems are key areas. Marelli’s innovative GDI system made possible the creation of a spark plug-controlled compression-ignition engine, a revolutionary concept that the automotive industry has been trying to master for more than two decades.

“We are honored to have been named the 2021 PACE Award Winners for our GDI Ultra High Pressure Fuel System,” noted Martin Moissl, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Powertrain at Marelli. “With this technology, we are continuing our mission to transform the future of mobility to create a safer, greener and better connected world.”

The 27th annual PACE Awards were presented by Automotive News and the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA). The competition was open to suppliers who provide products, processes, materials or services directly to the manufacture of cars or trucks. The Automotive News PACE Award is recognized around the world as the industry benchmark for innovation.
