Troy and his wife Charletta died hours apart earlier this week
After a woman apparently died of COVID-19, her husband, who was also hospitalized with the virus, was so upset by the news that he died hours later of a heart attack. The high school sweethearts, both 44, left seven children behind.
“They met at the age of 14, got married, have been married for 22 years and had seven beautiful children,” said Green Tiki, sister of Green Troy, Fox 2 Detroit reports.
Troy and his wife Charlette died hours apart earlier this week after the two reportedly contracted COVID-19 in mid-August.
The couple had planned a family trip to Florida, but when Troy fell ill he stayed. Charletta was hospitalized with COVID-19 two days after arriving in the Sunshine State. A day later, Troy was hospitalized with COVID at Sinai Grace Hospital. Both were put on a ventilator and Charletta’s condition worsened.
“Her lungs were badly damaged and… they just couldn’t do for her anymore,” Green said. “When he realized that his wife, you know, maybe wasn’t improving, after hearing that she was on a ventilator and that she was on it constantly 100%, he just couldn’t the supporter. He just started to have pain in his chest and finally a few hours later he passed away.
Charletta died in a Florida hospital on Labor Day. Troy died Tuesday morning of a heart attack.
“We always knew they were coming home,” Green said. “So, so that neither of them come home, words cannot explain how we are feeling right now.”
Green said Troy and Charletta weren’t vaccinated.
“I mean, I know that doesn’t stop you from getting it in general, but I feel like you will at least have a fighting chance,” she said. “So I like to insist to all my family members, (they have to) be vaccinated because I can’t do it anymore. COVID is taking too many people. “
The family started a GoFundMe to raise funds to cover burial costs for the double funerals. A message on the campaign page says the couple “died 8 hours apart from COVID -19”. Their children are between 10 and 23 years old. “All donations will go to them” and will cover the cost of their parents’ return home services.
