The injured widow of the assassinated Haitian president returned to the Caribbean country on Saturday for the first time since the July 7 attack that killed her husband.

Dressed in a black dress, a pearl necklace, earrings and a black mask, her arm bandaged in a black scarf, Jovenel Moïse’s widow, Martine, carefully descended the steps of the jet which landed in Port-au-Prince.

She was greeted by Acting Prime Minister Claude Joseph.

Martine Moïse also wore a sinister accessory from her new reality: a bulletproof vest.

The 47-year-old was rushed to a Miami hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds following the attack.

Her late husband is expected to be buried on July 23 in the Haitian city of Cap-Haitien. Government officials said on Friday his widow would be present.
