Mary J. Blige encourages her female fans to take cancer screening seriously. In a recent event, she spoke about a family member who died of cancer.
Mary J. Blige is leading a new breast cancer campaign aimed at black Americans after admitting she skipped tests and mammograms until she was 40.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mary hopes to draw attention to screening and preventive care to save lives.
Taking part in a panel discussion hosted by the bosses of Hologic, the company behind the 3D mammography exam, earlier this week, Mary urged women of color to put aside medical mistrust and experiments negative with doctors and making sure they stay on top of cancer control. UPS.
“My aunt died of breast cancer, my grandmother died of cervical cancer and one of my aunts just died of lung cancer,” said Mary J Blige. “What happens is they end up in the hospital, and there’s no one in our families who talks about it when we’re younger.
“I didn’t know about breast cancer or mammograms until I was 40, I was in the music business and trying to take care of myself. My body started to speak, so I started to listen. I discovered it at GYN (gynecologist). They don’t discuss this when we are kids. They don’t say, “Go have a mammogram.” You learn this as you get older.
“They don’t talk about it, and that’s why they end up in the hospital with two weeks to live, and now you know it. This is why it is extremely important to me. I’m here to let women know no matter how scary it is or who tells you it’s scary take care. Take care of your health… I want to help women heal from breast cancer. I want to help us feel beautiful everywhere.
