For a host of reasons (Maryland scoring two points in the first half, converting the first third down from the match just before half-time, a seven-yard kick in the fourth quarter, Maryland still not scoring after that , etc.) Maryland Temple can be safely ranked among the worst and most stupid football games of all time. And yet, in a sea of unrefined horror, this superb false goal on the ground stands out.
In 4th and 3rd place on the Temple's 16-yard line, and inside 2-7, Maryland coach Mike Locksley sent her goalkeeping unit. But kicker Joseph Petrino faked the attempt, and Locksley asked Mike Shinsky to run out for a first run. Unsurprisingly, no one has cracked. (Certainly, something went wrong, no? It can not be something that they practiced, did not it?) Not at all embarrassed, Temple advocates, Harrison Hand and Benny Walls, quickly defeated Shinsky for a big loss, because God forbids anyone to score in this dang game.
(After, Locksley said Petrino had been injured in a previous attempt at placement and had not been able to kick. What's going well! But then, ideally, you set up a successful fake.)
Maryland has entered the weekend standings for the first time since 2013 with an average of 71 points per game. It is therefore comforting to see them continue the proud tradition of the school of destroying all hopes, even when they are at the highest.
If you think about it, this may not be the worst false field placement supervised by former Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley in 2019.
