JACKSON, Wyo. (KIFI) – In a special meeting Thursday, the Teton County Council of Commissioners voted 3-2 to extend Health Order No 21-5 from the Teton District health official, requiring face masks in public places in Teton County.

Public health order # 21-5 is extended until December 31, 2021.

Masks will be required when the county risk level is red (high) or orange (moderate). If the risk level changes to yellow (low) or green (new normal), masks will not be needed. The community will be notified when the county’s risk level turns yellow.

This public health decree does not require the wearing of a mask in outdoor situations. Teton District Public Health Order # 21-5 requires that:

  1. People wear face masks inside any business or government facility open to the public, in a healthcare facility, in a taxi, or on public transportation.
  2. Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools and post-secondary institutions require all students, teachers, school staff and visitors to wear face masks.
  3. There are many exceptions to the prescription, including if a person has a medical condition for which wearing a face mask would negatively affect their ability to breathe.

Due to a new state law, public health orders issued by a public health official expire after 10 days, unless extended by county commissioners and / or city council. The city of Jackson voted to extend Public Health Order # 21-5 in the city on Monday in a 5-0 vote.
