Mass vaccination site opens by appointment only Tuesday at Clark County Fairgrounds

The site is expected to accommodate up to 600 people per day, Tuesday through Friday

CLARK COUNTY – More than 18,000 people eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccinations under the state’s Phase 1B, Level 1 have registered on the Clark County Public Health website to be notified when they are may receive their first dose.

On Sunday, the ministry warned that shipments of vaccines to health care providers, such as PeaceHealth Southwest, Legacy Salmon Creek, the Vancouver Clinic, and Sea Mar Community Health Centers, continue to be limited, meaning that ‘It could be weeks before people can be scheduled.

However, the Washington Department of Health is expected to open a mass vaccination site at the Clark County Fairgrounds starting Tuesday, Jan.26, with vaccines given by appointment only.

Clark County Public Health is urging people who have registered on the county’s website to also request an appointment at the fairgrounds site, using the Department of Health’s website.

(NOTE: As of this post, the Fairgrounds vaccination site planning page does not show any available slots, but that is subject to change by Monday.)

“Those who have submitted requests to Public Health will remain on our list, and we will continue to work with local health facilities to ensure these people are connected to the vaccine as quickly as possible,” said Dr Alan Melnick, head of Clark County Health and Director of Public Health. “However, some people may be vaccinated earlier on the site of the exhibition center.”

The exhibition center vaccination site is currently scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Friday, with the initial capacity to vaccinate up to 600 people per day.

“As immunization allocations increase in the coming weeks, on-site immunizations will also increase,” the state website says. “Currently, DOH is working with our private sectors to build the infrastructure necessary to meet the state’s goal of 45,000 vaccinations per day.”

The state is urging people not to go to a walk-in vaccination site, as walk-in visits are not currently accepted.

Under phases 1A and 1B1, the following people are eligible for vaccination:

* Personal health

* Residents of long-term care facilities

* Emergency medical personnel

* People over 65

* People over the age of 50 AND live in a multigenerational household

Clark County Public Health, along with Cowlitz and Skamania County, with assistance from the Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 3 through FEMA, continue their efforts to scale up vaccinations and open other clinics, as well as mobile vaccination units.

Details of these plans are currently expected to be announced in the first half of this week.
