State health officials on Monday confirmed 4,358 more cases of COVID-19, bringing the number of active cases statewide to 81,449.
Officials also announced 60 other COVID-related deaths, for a total of 12,401 confirmed deaths since the start of the pandemic.
There are currently 2,339 patients hospitalized with respiratory infection or COVID-like symptoms, including 423 in intensive care. Of those, 258 are currently intubated, the data shows.
The seven-day positive test average is currently 8.50%.
The latest figures come the day state health officials launched a new interactive COVID dashboard, giving users a more detailed look at COVID statistics with “data filters” and better visual presentation.
Officials said Monday that Massachusetts residents over the age of 75, and residents of all ages with two or more comorbid health conditions, have moved up the priority of vaccines and will be among the first groups to receive the vaccines for phase 2. The change is based on new federal recommendations suggesting that these groups are at high risk for serious complications from the COVID-19 disease.
The state will begin immunizing police and emergency personnel on January 11, officials said. Baker said first responders can get vaccinated at any of 60 vaccination sites set up by community health centers and other medical sites for first responders, or at one of the new vaccination sites that the The state will set up for the group, which includes 45,000 workers across the state.
