Hercules Mata’afa posted a thank you letter to the Minnesota Vikings and their fans on his Twitter page on Wednesday after being knocked out by the team on Tuesday, after three years on the roster.

The Lahainaluna high school graduate was among the latest cuts for the Vikings – the announcement came after the cutback deadline expired on Tuesday.

“Thanks guys for everything” The last of Mata’afa has started. “As early as this morning, when I found out that my time in Minnesota was over, it struck me how good I had it here.”

Mata’afa was not drafted from Washington State in 2018, although he was the 2017 AP Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. He was signed shortly thereafter by the Vikings but got injured and missed his rookie season in 2018.

He has played 19 games in the past two years at the defensive end, registering 25 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

“All I ever wanted was an opportunity and you gave it to me” Mata’afa wrote. “Every time I’ve been on the pitch I put everything on the line.… I want to thank the fans, my teammates and the organization for giving me the opportunity.
