The New York Mets (11-8) arrived at Adam Wainwright They defeated the St. Louis Cardinals (10-9) tonight, 5-4.
Offense:
Robinson Cano triggered an early attack at the top of the first with a doubled line to initiate an exchange of two.
Michael Conforto then walked to make him runner at first and second with two outs. The next hitter, Wilson Ramos, a muscular base hit the middle to lead in the first leg of the match.
It was also the first time in the history of the New York Mets that the Mets players scored their first run against Adam Wainwright.
J.D. Davis followed by a double on a sharp line in the right field to score the second round of the inning.
In the third, Cano cashed again on a straight line leading to the right field, Juan Lagares came in to mark the third inning of the Mets game, giving them a 3-0 lead.
Ramos made his second run of the match in the fourth inning, settling gently to third on the defensive player's choice, Pete Alonso score safely by giving the Mets a 4-0 lead.
Alonso then hammered a home run, his seventh of the year, on the ground of the dead center to extend the advance of the Mets on four points.
Pitch:
Jason Vargas took the start on the mound and had one of his best outings of the year. Despite four shots, he only allowed one earned run, three hits, three walks and three outs.
Seth Lugo worked the fifth and sixth innings. His only hiccup was to give a two-run home run to a claw hitter Lane Thomas which was his first major league home run.
Jeurys Familia grabbed the top of the seventh inning, scoring a much needed goal-scoring frame. Familia then went back there to start at the top of the eighth inning, but was pulled out after one withdrawal.
Justin Wilson came to face Dexter Fowler, with a runner in second place with an exit. Wilson managed to convince Fowler to reach third base. J.D. Davis made an incredible stop while diving, but threw him for an error allowing another point to score.
Kolten Wong was the next batter, creating a situation from left to left, which resulted in a march on four courts.
Now with runners in the corners with an exit, Mickey Callaway made the decision to do Robert Gsellman.
Gsellman has the batter Jedd Gyorko appear Robinson Cano for the second exit. Then got the third inning by getting Matt Carpenter to the earth to Pete Alonso.
Edwin Diaz was called for the opportunity to save with the Mets having a 5-4 lead in the ninth. Diaz managed his seventh save of the year when he was a little fragile, giving up a walk to Marcell Ozunaand a base shot for Jose Martinez with already two outs in the sleeve. But, Diaz hung there and has Yadier Molina fly to the center to finish the game.
On the bridge:
The Mets will be looking to win their second game tomorrow afternoon against the Cardinals. The pitcher who will start for the Mets is still unknown with the injury of Jacob deGrom. Cardinals have Miles Mikolas planned to launch against the metropolitans. The game time will be at 14:10 EST.
