Matthew Boling's 100-meter national record has not even been his best performance

Texas superstar Matthew Boling of Houston Strake Jesuit spent the last month of his career in high school breaking records. At the end of April, Boling became the first high school student to score 10 seconds of attack in the 100 meters, recording a 9.98 drop. His dominant performance, however, was helped by a tailwind of 4.2 meters per second. So, even though it would have been the second fastest time in the world this year, it has not been registered as an official record.

Fortunately, at the Texas State Championships held yesterday, Boling had one last chance to break the official record in front of more than 22,000 spectators. He was forced to go home in 10.13 seconds, which is an official high school record and his personal best. Henry Neal's 29-year record is 10.15 seconds.

Boling also won the long jump title of the state with a bound of 25 feet and 4.5 inches, although his team was disqualified in the 4×100. The competition culminated in the traditional 4×400, which Boling anchored for Houston Strake. DeSoto was favored at the event, and when Boling got the witness, he was shooting DeSoto's anchor at about 30 meters and three seconds. That should have been a gap enough to win, but Boling scored and scored 21 seconds on the first 200 meters. Boling followed DeSoto's anchor in the home stretch, winning the event with a glamorous 44.74 anchor. The Houston in 3: 10.56 is the best in the country this year.

This is a hell of a way to end a meeting of the state. Boling will be coming to the University of Georgia in the fall, where hopefully he will continue to make bullshit like that.
