Police said that no arrests were made during the shooting that occurred on Sunday morning in front of a shopping street at 3500 Block Wheeler Road SE. Two women and one girl were injured.

Semere Abraha, who owns the Holiday Market convenience store on the site, was in the process of storing shelves near the entrance when the shots were fired. Several people rushed inside to take cover, he said.

In the surveillance video footage of the car park, captured by Abraha's security system and seen by the Washington Post, a young man can be seen rushing to the entrance and placing his hand on the door handle. He then falls to the ground, the glass explodes and spreads around him.

The shooter pulled out of the front passenger seat of a car in the parking lot and opened fire with what the police later described as a "rifle or long gun".

Police said she was looking for a light-colored four-door sedan of an older model last seen south on Wheeler Road SE.

Scott was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. Shortly after, the other victims entered the same hospital. All had to survive.

The shootings remained under investigation, the police said.
