Max Muncy enjoyed doing well against the giants

Despite their current lull, the Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the best offenses in baseball this season, with Max Muncy among those filling a key role.

Muncy got off to a bit of a slow start in terms of actual hit counts and power as his patient approach led to an abundance of steps while also working some mechanics to better handle the elevated fast balls.

It then took off as the weather started to warm up, and the San Francisco Giants were regularly at the reception of Muncy’s production.

While Muncy provided the production against each team, he took it to another level when the Dodgers faced the Giants this season, without being able to explain why, for Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle:

“I don’t know why I’m doing so well against them, but obviously I’m happy to do it,” he said. “It makes me happy because it means I put the team in a good position to win, and that’s really all I care about – and it’s even better that it’s the Giants, not just because of the rivalry but because they’re the best team in baseball right now. It makes it even sweeter and I’m very proud of it, but it’s one of those things that I can’t explain.

In 19 games (18 starts) against the Giants this season, Muncy has reached .284 / .385 / .672 with two doubles, eight homers and 12 RBIs. His 1.056 base plus slugging percentage is the sixth highest of any opponent Muncy has faced in more than three games this year.

Muncy’s production against the Giants dwindled last weekend as he got just one-for-12 with two walks and five strikeouts in the series loss. Muncy didn’t get the hit – a single – until the series finale.

For his career so far, Muncy has reached .258 / .380 / .596 with eight doubles, 16 homers and 31 RBIs in 54 games (45 starts) against the Giants. The only opponent he has more homers against is the Rockies, with 18, and partially benefiting from some of those contests at Coors Field, a batting club.

Kapler praises Muncy

While Muncy was playing at an elite level against the Giants earlier this season, manager Gabe Kapler marveled at the overall player It is.
