Leading vaccine expert urges Americans to receive COVID-19 vaccine as number of new infections fueled by the highly contagious delta variant continues to rise in the United States

“I think there is no doubt that we are going to see an increase,” said Gregory Poland of the Mayo Clinic. CBS 4 Minnesota Tuesday.

The doctor said he always wore a mask when in public when “in a crowded scenario”, whether indoors or outdoors.

He noted that Minnesota, like many other parts of the country, is seeing an increase in the number of cases as the delta continues to circulate, and he is seeing cases of serious illness and hospitalization among young people.

“Make no mistake, ‘I’ve made it this far and I’m fine.’ This is a very different variant. He will find you, ”he told CBS 4.

“This virus will find anyone who is not immune,” he added.

Public health officials are increasingly concerned about the rise in the number of new infections, hospitalizations and deaths as vaccination in the United States lags behind.

The variant has become the dominant strain in the United States, as cases are on the rise in parts of the country with low vaccination rates.

The current seven-day average for new cases is 26,306, an increase of almost 70% from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hospitalizations are also up about 36% from last week after weeks of decline.
