(KTTC) – We have heard from medical professionals about another outbreak of COVID-19 that they expect after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Dr Gokhan Anil, Mayo Clinic’s regional health system clinical practice director for the Southwest region, said it was a difficult decision to make, but it was also necessary.
“These are tough and important decisions for all of us at the Mayo Clinic,” said Anil. “Our intention is never to disrupt the care of our patients, ensuring that we provide high quality patient-centered and accessible care.
He added that in recent weeks, they have seen a significant demand for hospitalization for patients with COVID-19 in the region.
This temporary change is expected to last six weeks and the staff change will be aimed at helping Mankato Hospital as well as other clinics.
The Belle Plaine clinic was temporarily closed on November 23. The other four clinics Mankato-Northridge, Le Sueur, Janesville and Waterville will temporarily close as of Monday.
“We have redeployed approximately 23 nurses, as well as allied health personnel, from our lab technician to radiology technicians and hospitality hostesses,” Anil said.
He said that although the clinics are closed for six weeks, doctors are working hard to communicate with patients to determine if virtual care is an option or to direct them to the nearest location for referrals. in-person care.
“The way we chose these clinics is that we looked for geographic locations,” Anil said. “What’s the nearest possible next clinic to reduce disruption in our patient care?”
Ultimately, Anil said this regional decision was made to meet the needs of patients, and he hopes it will only be temporary.
“Our hope and desire is to be able to reopen these clinics within six weeks,” he said.
