Forty members of Mayville Senior Citizens gathered at the VFW in Mayville on September 18 for a barbecue chicken dinner prepared by members of VFW.
The club’s monthly fundraising was donated to the VFW cooks for the preparation of the dinner.
President Janet Loomis opened the meeting and announced that there were wear masks available on the table, so please wear them when we are out for a walk visiting people or picking up our food.
Devotions President Dianne Goodrich guided us through the pledge of allegiance after several good stories.
The secretary’s report was read by Darlene Barney. There was no correspondence. A correction has been made to the numbering “I” declaration. The statement now states that there is no need to dial “I” in front of the area code in which we live. However, all ten digits of the phone number must be dialed. If you dial outside of your area code, the “I” must also be added.
The Treasurers’ Report was presented by Kathie Sukalac. She said last month’s speaker James Kurtz wanted his speaking allowance to go to the vets memorial and noted that if the club contributed an additional $ 25, the club could buy a sponsor brick in the gazabo. President Loomis took a phone and email vote among the board members and it was approved unanimously. The $ 75 brick purchase was part of the expense report
President Loomis reported that she and Darlene attended the Board of Governors meeting in Jamestown on September 9th. Six groups of seniors from the county were represented. Former United Higher Council leaders Russ Dietrich, Ellen Cofaro and Becky Blum were leading this meeting to check if there was enough interest to revive the Council. We all agreed to try for the next 3 months to have meetings. . Jeff Wagner from Mayville volunteered to be our representative if this happened. The OFA representative pointed out that with the upcoming arrival of open enrollment in insurance, the office has hired more people specifically to handle insurance calls. These people should present the facts impartially and not recommend specific insurance. The next meeting on October 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chautauqua Center in Jamestown, NY. The speaker will discuss the insurance options available this fall. Janet and Dalene plan to attend.
Goodwill President Mary Carlson said she had not sent any cards this month.
There are still no volunteers for the tour director (s). Jeff has stated that he is ready to help anyone who wants to take one of the D&F trips. That is, if D&F contacts him. He was happy to help someone last month
Program chair Bill Tornstrom has indicated that Gail Pearles and Bernie Dotterweich of Cattaraugus, New York, will be our guest singers in October. They have been together for many years and will present a mix of bluegrass and upbeat folk music for our entertainment.
The kitchen committee, Louise Richer and Joyce Ayers, were thanked for serving the food and cleaning up afterwards.
Ann Carlson was welcomed as a new member of the group.
There must be a council meeting after the general assembly. All are invited to come and express their concerns and / or suggestions.
Because there is an increase in the Covid 19 variant, the group has been asked to comment on how our future meetings should be handled. A lady spoke up and said she thought we should continue to meet. If someone becomes ill or is exposed, a decision could be made at that time. If this were to happen, it is hoped that the affected person would be responsible for it and inform their table members and notify the chair so that the appropriate action can be taken. The group agreed.
Door prizes were won based on the number of dinner tickets. The lucky winners were Patricia Cook, Patti Szczepankicwicz and Paul Motrynczuk. The $ 5.00 lottery ticket was won by Ernestine Cruzado.
The next meeting will be at the VFW on October 21 with a pizza and green salad for $ 3.
