Minority House Leader Kevin McCarthy said on Sunday Democrat-backed HB 1 would destroy electoral confidence and serve as a takeover for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, effectively destroying America if the sweeping electoral reform bill passes next month.
“No, I don’t have the most to lose: the American public has the most to lose because we would lose our freedom,” McCarthy, R-Calif., Said on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures.” “When you bring a bill to Congress, the majority party reserves the first numbers. Last week, all House Democrats signed the sweeping HR 1 electoral reform bill – also known as the “For the People Act” – declaring that it will expand voting rights and “clean up the corruption ”in politics. But Republicans have torn it apart as a “federal government takeover” and accuse Democrats of trying to change electoral rules for their own benefit.
The bill is expected to be considered in the House during the first week of March.
“What we need to do is people lose their confidence in elections, you will break up society and we will lose America as we know it,” said McCarthy, addressing host Maria Bartiromo . “We know there is a real issue, that of confidence in the last elections.
“Going forward, what you need to do is exactly this: You need to clean the rollers.… You need to take legal action to make sure you clean the rollers. We have to make sure there is integrity.

McCarthy then took a hit at California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who faces a strengthening recall campaign likely to make the poll this fall. He said the governor would be more likely to verify the identity of those signing the recall petitions than those voting in his state.
“There is an ongoing recall in California. I guarantee you Gavin Newsom is making sure they are verifying who signs that reminder IDs more than they verify who votes in California,” McCarthy said. “You can’t send a mass ballot to people who don’t even ask for it when those lists are so bad.
“I think I show some ID. To get on a plane. Yeah, I could do that. I can also show some ID to vote because in California it’s like what they do in the COVID bill. They now want to give vaccines to immigrants, to illegal immigrants who arrive, before giving them to Americans in San Francisco, “he continued.” If you are illegal, you can vote in a race to school board. McCarthy also claimed that of President Biden’s $ 1.9 trillion COVID stimulus package, 91% goes to agenda items unrelated to COVID, arguing that “Socialists are taking back the swamp.”
