Miami, October 5, 2021 – Miami Dade College (MDC) Farm campus, the college’s southernmost site in Miami-Dade County, officially begins construction on its new Student Success Center, a 60,000-square-foot, four-storey, mixed-use building. A inauguration ceremony will take place at 9:30 am on Tuesday, October 19 hosted by MDC President Madeline Pumariega, MDC Vice-president and Provost Dr Malou Harrison and President of MDC Homestead Campus, Dr Oscar Loynaz with campus representatives, city and county representatives.
The new Student Success Center will house a range of services, including Admissions and registration, Financial aid, ACCESS, Council, Bursar and Trial. It will also house the office of the Dean of Student Services, the library, additional classrooms and computer labs. An entire floor will be dedicated Conference center and it will also include a Art Gallery to present student and community art exhibitions. The establishment will also house the Institute of Entrepreneurship, with a focus on meeting the development needs of the Town of Homestead community and workforce through business development and innovation.
The building was designed by Rodriguez and Quiroga architectural firm, also responsible for the design of the original buildings of the Homestead Campus, Homestead Town Hall and Homestead Police Station, as well as the design and renovation of other MDC buildings including the Koubek House, the Freedom Tower, the New World School of the Arts, the Aquatic Training and Fitness Center on the MDC North and Padrón campuses. Construction of the Student Success Center, which will be located at 301 Civic Court, is expected to be completed in January 2023.
“The construction of the Student Success Center is a major milestone in the evolution of our campus and a testament to the central role Miami Dade College plays in the Homestead community,” said Dr Oscar Loynaz, President of MDC Homestead Campus. “Located across from Homestead Town Hall, the new building will provide greater visibility to the campus and, through its business development function, bring our students closer to the business community in the heart of the city.”
The MDC Homestead campus opened in 1985 as the College’s fifth campus with 350 students, operating out of the First Baptist Church. In 1991, a modern campus in the historic downtown Homestead business district was built to serve South Dade’s ever-growing student population. Over the past decade, the campus has experienced remarkable growth, earning a reputation for excellence and innovation.
