Less than a day after a lively exchange on the breed, representatives Mark Meadows and Rashida Tlaib reconciled to the floor of the house.

Tlaib, a new member of the Democratic Congress of Michigan, had blamed Meadows for using a black administration official as "accessory" at the House of Representatives' oversight committee hearing. Wednesday. Meadows was trying to discredit the testimony of Donald Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, that the president was a "racist."

The manager, Lynne Patton, a regional director of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, previously worked for the Trump organization and a foundation created by Eric Trump, the president's son. She stood behind Meadows during her remarks but did not speak.

"It's not because someone has a person of color, a black person who works for her is not racist," said Tlaib, an American of Palestinian and British descent. one of the two Muslim women of Congress. "And it's insensitive, and some will even say that the fact that someone uses an accessory, a black woman, in this chamber, in this committee, is a racist act on its own."

Meadows expressed outrage and requested that Tlaib's comments be removed from the record. The chair of the committee, Elijah Cummings, D-Md., Of Black race, tried to calm the confrontation by calling Meadows one of his best friends. He offered Tlaib an opportunity to clarify his statement and she said that she did not call Meadows a racist, but that it was a "racist act" to use Patton for this way.

Meadows, tears in her eyes, thanked Cummings and Tlaib.

"For my colleague, Mr. Meadows, it was not my intention," Tlaib said. "And I'm sorry if that's what it gave me, but I said" somebody "in general.

Late Thursday morning, Paul Kane of the Washington Post reported Tlaib and Meadows were kissed on the floor and had a long and cordial discussion.

"She said she did not think so yesterday, so there's no need to apologize," Meadows told reporters afterward. "I wanted her to know and she wanted me to know that our relationship will be one that, hopefully, will yield very good results in the future."

"I believe this moment is a person of color and not just me, two or three of my colleagues have said how insensitive this act was. I think we all, even the people at home, were panting when that happened, "Tlaib said in an interview with CNN on Thursday when asked if she thought what Meadows had done was a racist act. "I think if we want to talk about race in this country, it's not the way to do it."

Before Tlaib speaks, Representative Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., Also black, asked Cohen about Trump's story.

"Would you accept that someone can turn down rental housing to African Americans, lead the BIRther movement, call the Diaspora" unscrupulous country "and designate white supremacists as" good people, "having a friend. black and remaining racist? "asked Pressley.

"Yes," said Cohen.

"I agree," said Pressley.

Meadows, leader of the ultra-conservative caucus, had previously endorsed the "birther" conspiracy theory that President Barack Obama was not a US citizen from the United States. "We will send him home to Kenya or wherever," said Meadows in a 2012 video.

Asked about the comments on Thursday, Meadows told reporters that it was an "old news" and that he had said it while trying to win elections.

"I've been to dozens of times and I've sincerely apologized for it many times," said Meadows. "It was when I was running for the presidency and answering a question: I had just returned from Kenya mission to Kenya, so whoever knows me knows that I really show respect, regardless of race or sex, "Meadows told reporters in the House.
