Measles is now a concern when traveling to the United States.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (KKCO / KJCT) – Measles is now a concern for vacationers in the United States, not just for international travelers.

There has been no case so far this year in Mesa County, and only one has been confirmed in Colorado, but the Department of Health reminds people to make sure they are up to date with their vaccines before traveling to the United States.

Measles was a concern for international travelers, but now, with unvaccinated and under-vaccinated sites in the country, traveling to the home is also something to watch for, according to Mesa County Public Health.

"Nine out of 10 people who are not vaccinated against measles, or otherwise immunized, will have measles. Before you travel, vaccination is the best option to protect yourself in case you are exposed, "said regional epidemiologist Andy Tyler.

States where outbreaks have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control include the states of New York, Michigan, Georgia and Washington. Find more information about the outbreaks reported here.

Wrong information is also circulating about MMR boosters. The Department of Health says some people mistakenly believe they should be reminded if they had a measles vaccine in the 1960s or 1970s. They want people to know that this is not recommended in most cases .
