GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Meijer plans to host a series of immunization clinics statewide this week as part of a campaign to deliver 25,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Walker-based retailer said in a press release that residents 65 and older who register with Meijer are eligible for a dose of the vaccine. Meijer launched its partnership vaccination program with the state on Jan. 15 and has since delivered 20,000 doses of the vaccine to Michigan and 30,000 doses in total.

“We are very proud of the role that our stores and pharmacies continue to play in this massive effort to immunize people against COVID-19,” Rick Keyes, Meijer president and CEO, said in a statement. “As a pharmaceutical partner of the State of Michigan and the Federal Government, we have been able to receive vaccines and rapidly administer doses to thousands of people in our communities, typically within 72 hours.

Company spokesman Frank Guglielmi said Meijer plans to host 70 vaccination clinics this week in 40 of its stores. The vaccine is only available by appointment, and Meijer is not revealing which of its stores have clinics.

“These are not walk-in clinics,” he said. “Those who have registered will be notified of their appointment and the location of the store. Some stores will have two day clinics, some stores will have one day clinics. “

Meijer says, “This week’s aggressive vaccination schedule is made possible through partnerships with several counties and cities in Michigan, as well as doses received from the state of Michigan and the Centers for Disease Control.

“I am extremely proud of the incredible work our store and pharmacy teams have done to create a fast and efficient process for our immunization clinics,” said Jason Beauch, vice president of pharmacy at Meijer. “The importance of these clinics is not lost on our team members and patients – it is a very moving experience for everyone involved.

Those who are eligible and wish to receive the vaccine can register by sending “COVID” to 75049, visiting clinic.meijer.com, or in person at their favorite Meijer pharmacy.
