WAYNE COUNTY, Michigan – Meijer stores have started vaccinating people at a few of its Wayne County pharmacies.

Michigan state officials have chosen the chain supercenters as their immunization partner to help meet their goal of giving 50,000 injections each day.

Meijer has 120 pharmacies in Michigan stores, but they do immunization clinics and don’t advertise them in advance.

Residents flocked to the Meijer store in Allen Park on Thursday to get their shots.

Meijer qualifies as what the federal government calls a federal retail pharmacy. The state provides the vaccine weekly and Meijer currently has immunization clinics in Taylor, Westland, Livonia and Allen Park.

The focus is currently on people aged 65 and over.
