The young and the restless has a new married couple at the scene. Abby Newman and Chance Chancellor have married. But instead of Chance’s regular port of Donny Boaz, playing the character, he’s temporarily played by someone else. That person happens to be Justin Gaston, the actual wife of Melissa Ordway, who plays Abby.

Boaz first announced on Instagram that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and would be absent from the show for some time.
He wrote: “I have a little news that I must share. “A few weeks ago, I tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, I didn’t have any symptoms. Y&R for a moment. I am happy to say that I have returned to work and will be back very soon. Thanks for the continued support. “
Soap Opera Digest first signaled that Gaston would take over temporarily. Sharing the post, Ordway wrote on Instagram, “Who better to step in than my incredibly talented and handsome husband ?! I love you @jmichaelgaston. “

Just Gaston and Melissa Ordway on role of fictional couple in real life
In a recent joint interview with TV Insider, Gaston and Ordway talked about acting together on screen.
“I was really, really excited to be working with Melissa,” Gaston said. “At first we were like, ‘Is this going to be weird? But it wasn’t at all. I’ve known everyone in the cast for a while, I was happy to step in.
Ordway shared similar feelings, adding, “Initially, I just wanted Justin to think I was a good actress! I still have a crush on him even though we’ve been together for a while. At first we didn’t know what to expect. But these were the most fun two weeks I have ever had at work. Justin and Melissa don’t talk to each other as eloquently as writers write for us!
Although Abby has had several love interests in the past, including marriage, Ordway says there’s a specific reason why her character may relate to Chance the Best.

“These are two characters who have so much in common, starting with their families,” she explained. “He’s Chancellor and can understand that Abby is a Newman and an Abbott. Here are some of the most famous families in Genoa City. Hope this [relationship] sticks for Abby. We will have to wait and see.
It is still not clear yet when Boaz will return to the show. The young and the restless airs weekdays on CBS.
